Luke Fleming, MCP Artistic Director and Violist

Welcome to the Manhattan Chamber Players website!  Let me tell you a little bit about us.  Back in 2015 when I decided to bring together the musicians in MCP, I had been playing in a professional string quartet for six years.  Though I was so lucky to be playing the amazing string quartet repertoire every day, I found myself more and more often trying to create opportunities to play other chamber music with the people with whom I had come up in the music world—people who shared a common musical background and ideals of music making.  These were the beginnings of my idea to create a chamber music collective with these colleagues and friends, an idea that finally came to fruition with the Manhattan Chamber Players!  It was a labor of love, truly “all about the music,” created purely in service of the vast and awesome chamber repertoire we have at our fingertips.

All the members of our ensemble have impressive independent careers – as soloists, members of professional string quartets, piano trios, or other chamber groups, and even two world-renowned composers who write music for MCP – but we all share a desire to come together and perform the great chamber repertoire as often as we have the opportunity.  In addition to presenting our own series of chamber concerts in New York and a summer series in Idyllwild, the Lily Rock Chamber Music Festival, we also travel to music festivals and chamber music series across the world to perform in small chamber groups tailored to fit any presenter’s desires or repertoire requirements.

Therefore, a presenter may view us just like any other chamber group, but with the flexibility of programming to suit practically anything in the rich string/wind/piano chamber repertoire.  It is intentional that the members of the groups we program vary from performance to performance – our unanimity of approach and purpose, combined with the sheer joy of being able to play this music together, gives each performance its own palpable energy and spontaneity.

Please take a look around the rest of the website: see and hear MCP members perform together on our videos page and check out photos of and read about our enormously talented MCP Artists.
