SUMMARY:"Tragedy and Triumph:" The Music of Brahms\, Bartók\, and Dvořák - Engelman Recital Hall\, Baruch College\, NYC
DESCRIPTION:7 PM Informal Pre-Concert Talk and Q&A\n7:30 PM Concert \n$20 General Admission\nFREE for children and students \nTo purchase tickets\, please click here. \nEach of the works on this program were written following the death of its respective composer’s mother. Their characters\, however\, could not be more different. While Brahms moves from one extreme to another in his magisterial fast movements to his plaintive slow movement\, Bartók begins each of this final\, heart-wrenching quartet’s movements with the word Mesto\, or “Sadly.” One of Dvořák least-known masterworks rounds out the program with a piece that runs the gamut of human emotion: dark throughout\, at times tragic\, playful\, and poignant\, but above all\, stunningly beautiful. \nProgram: \nJohannes Brahms (1833 – 1897)\nTrio for Violin\, Horn\, and Piano in Eb major\, Op. 40 (1865) \nBéla Bartók (1881 – 1945)\nString Quartet No. 6\, Sz. 114 (1939) \nIntermission \nAntonín Dvořák (1841 – 1904)\nPiano Trio in F minor\, Op. 65 (1883) \nManhattan Chamber Players \nAndrea Casarrubios\, Cello\n Luke Fleming\, Viola\n David Fung\, Piano\n Adam Golka\, Piano\n Siwoo Kim\, Violin \nRavenna Lipchik\, Violin\nGrace Park\, Violin\n Laura Weiner\, Horn
