SUMMARY:2016 - 2017 Season Opener Concert for Red Bank Chamber Music Society - Red Bank\, NJ
DESCRIPTION:Click here to go to the event website. \nThis is a program constructed around the influences of folk music and nationalism finding its way into great works in the chamber repertoire\, in varying degrees and under vastly different circumstances.  From the Argentinian Tango music central to Astor Piazzolla’s compositions to the Chinese folk music and Indonesian gamelan music that have been so important to Vivian Fung\, this influence from pioneers of nationalist and folk music like Antonín Dvořák and Béla Bartók continue to inspire composers to this day.  Rounding out the first half is Dmitri Shostakovich’s epic Piano Quintet\, which in five powerful movements encapsulates the composer’s own feelings about Europe at war and his country being ripped apart. \nAstor Piazzolla (1921 – 1992)\nFour for Tango (1989) \nVivian Fung (b. 1975)\nPizzicato for String Quartet (2001) \nDmitri Shostakovich (1906 – 1975)\nPiano Quintet in G minor\, Op. 57 (1940) \nIntermission \nAntonín Dvořák (1841 – 1904)\nPiano Quartet No. 2 in Eb major\, Op. 87 (1889) \nManhattan Chamber Players\nAdam Golka\, Piano\nKatie Hyun\, Violin\nGrace Park\, Violin\nLuke Fleming\, Viola\nBrook Speltz\, Cello
